The Environmental Impact of Different Forms of Transportation

Our project is about the environmental impact of different forms of transportation, and how much pollution different types of vehicles cause in different parts of the world.
Grade 5

Problem

We are trying to find out how much pollution diffrent vehicles cause, and how it affects the Earth. Our hypothesis was that cars make the most pollution per year since there are so many of them.

Method

We used online resources and read books to find out different types of information as well as to get pictures and charts.

Research

We looked for charts to find data for writing and to put in our slides as a picture, and we looked through websites to find information about different topics.

Data

During COVID, there were less cars on the road and less factories open, causing less pollution. Greenhouse gases affect global warming.Transportation is one of the biggest sectors of pollution overall. Emissions of light duty trucks have nearly doubled, while the emissions of cars have declined by nearly 45%. Our presentation goes over all of the data about how different forms of transportation affects the enviornment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, overall, transportation is one of the biggest sectors for carbon dioxide emissions and pollution, but if you observe the charts, you will see that light duty vehicles create the most pollution. This includes cars and light duty trucks. Light duty trucks are the largest emitter of pollution in Canada and U.S.A. Our hypothesis was partially correct because light duty vehicles (which include cars) are the biggest polluter, but not specifically cars.

Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge Shruthi's brother, Shreyas Hariharan, who has participated in the science fair previously, and helped guide us to find information and explained out the system of what to do. We would also like to acknowledge Prisha's parents for helping us find information and giving us advice.
