Zeah's Heart Project

Because I have family members with heart problems, I was curious to learn about how the humans functions.

Problem

I want to research the human heart, how it functions and the parts.

Method

Resources like, books and the internet.

Research

What is the heart? :

- The engine of life.

- It works constantly, and a never pausing organ.

- Muscle found nowhere else in the human body.

- Delivers rich blood throughout the whole body.

- Heart is a size of an adult fist.

- Main organ of the whole entire body.

Resource : Understanding Anatomy and Physiology - Gale Sloan Thompson

How does the heart functions? :

- The heart works to pump blood throught the body.

- The blood gets delivered oxygen - rich blood to organs and the tissues.

- It returns oxygen - poor blood into the lungs.

- Attached to the heart are called atria (singular atrium) and the two lower chambers are ventricles

- Attached to the heart are several large vessels that serve to transport blood and from the heart.

- Called the great vessels, they include the superior vena and the inferior vena cava, the pulmonary artery, four pulmonary veins and the aorta.

- To ensure the heart, it has four valves between atrium and its ventricle and another at the exit of each ventricle.

- Each valve is formed by two or three flaps of tissues called cusps or leafets.

Resource : Understanding Anatomy and Physiology - Gale Sloan Thompson.

Conclusion

I learned that the human heart is a critical organ, it pumps blood and delivers oxygen rich blood to all body cells, therefore without a heart no one can live.
