Hypothesis
We believe that sugary drinks can have a negative impact on our teeth by causing cavities. The acid and sugar in these drinks can accumulate in the mouth and get stuck in between the teeth. However, if we take proper care of our teeth by brushing and flossing regularly, we can prevent such problems. On the other hand, avoiding oral hygiene practices can lead to toothaches and other dental issues.
Research
What's the effect on our teeth by soda?
The effect on our teeth because of soda can cause tooth decay and cavities. When your teeth get affected by this it can cause a hole in the tooth and that can lead to tooth pain, cavities and for your tooth to be pulled out.
How can you clean your teeth after drinking sugary drinks?
You can treat your teeth by brushing your teeth for 2 minutes and scrubbing in a circular motion. By brushing your teeth and rinsing with water it will help. If you consistently brush your teeth, your teeth would not be affected .
Why we chose an egg for our project?
We used an egg for our project because its white color resembled our teeth. This has better understanding of the structure and design of teeth.
Why we boiled our egg?
We boiled our egg because, without boiling, the shell would crack , and a regular egg would float to the top; however, we wanted the egg to sink, and a boiled egg will sink, which is a good thing for our project.
Why is it important to brush your teeth?
It is important to brush your teeth because it prevents cavities. When you brush your teeth it gets rid of you plaque. Plaque is a sticky material that is made from leftover food and saliva that mix in your mouth. Plaque can lead to gum disease. Gum disease is when there is an infection where the bone that holds your tooth is. That can cause a loss of a tooth.
Variables
Constant Variables
The constant variables in our experiment are hard boiled eggs, the temperature, the same time for 24 hours, the same brushing time for all the eggs and the amount of drinks in the plastic cup. These are the constant variables because they stay the same.
Manipulated Variables
The manipulated variables in our experiment are the different type of drinks and on the labels, they all have different sugar levels. These are the manipulated variables because they are different..
Procedure
- Get a clear cup and fill it with any sugary drink.
- Boil the egg for about 5 minutes .
- When the egg is boiled, wait for it to cool down .
- When it's cool, place it in the cup with the drink.
- Place saran wrap on top of the cup.
- Wait 24 hours for the results(make sure its room temperature).
- Unwrap the saran wrap and take the eggs out.
- Wet the toothbrush with water then put toothpaste and scrub the egg.
- Scrub for about 2 minutes.
- Then you get your results!
Observations
When we conducted our experiment, we noticed that drinks like fruit punch, Monster and Gatorade caused peeling. We researched this and found that the bacteria and sugar in these drinks create acid that attacks teeth/ eggs. When we brush the egg for the two minutes, we had to scrub harder for best results. Using a circular motion while brushing helped achieve better results.
Analysis
In this experiment our objective was to examine the effects on our teeth by soda. When we did our experiment it showed that in the end soda affects your teeth and overall health. When we did our experiment we realized that there was peeling on the egg that was because the acidity level was higher.
Conclusion
Based on our project the results are sugary drinks can affect your teeth by causing toothaches, gum disease, tooth decay and plaque. All of these can make you loose teeth. We learned how they affect your teeth and the color they turn before your brush them. If you don't brush your teeth it can cause cavities. We learned a new technique on how to brush your teeth and it is very effective. In conclusion sugary drinks affect our teeth by making gum disease, cavities and toothaches.
Application
This project relates to dentistry because we talked about in this project how sugary drinks affect our teeth and different techniques on how to brush your teeth to get rid of plaque, and cavities.
Sources Of Error
We had trouble boiling the eggs during the experiment. Two of them cracked, so we had to repeat the process. One of the eggs, which were monster also cracked while we were brushing it, so we had to try again. Eventually, we succeeded after we did the monster drink again.

Thank you for your feedback judges We appreciate our parents support and Mr. H's guidance in improving our project. His recommendations and ideas really helped us. Ms.Sahota also helped us a lot by telling us what to research about. We would like to thank you(the judges) for taking their time and judging us.
Future Project: For our upcoming project we would like to do something with how if drinks with higher carbon and a drink with lower carbon and the difference in the teeth.
