Problem
Many people die during tsunamis. Is there a way to let them know if their are any coming.

Research
A tsunami is a series of long waves caused by a sudden displacement of the ocean. This displacement is causes by an earthquack below or near the ocean floor. These earthquakes create waves that go outward in all directions. Some cross entire ocean basins. Unlike wind-driven waves, which only travel through the topmost layer of the ocean, tsunamis move through the entire water form from the ocean floor to the ocean surface. 80% of tsunamis start by earthquakes but others start by landslide, volcanic activity, some weather or metoers or comets hitting the surface. The deeper the ocean the faster a earthquake moves. Sometimes people out at sea cant feel a tsunami if the water is really deep.
Data
You can be notified of a tsunami on radio, television, and wireless emergency alerts. They may also come through outdoor sirens, officials, text message alerts, and phone notifications. There will also often be emergency officails there to give instructions.
A way organizations detect Tsunamis are deep sea Tsunami detection buoys. These boys have a recorder on the seabed that records changes in pressure and can detect a Tsunami less than a centimeter tall. After something is detected from this recorder it sends a signal to a buoy on the surface that sends a signal to a satellite that sends data to shore. Long or short earthquakes and odd ocean behavior where it looks like a wall or when it drains so you can see reefs and fish are also signs of a Tsunami.
Often the waves approach land and slow but grow in height. You may only have 5 minutes to fully evacuate. Other times you have anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours. Tsunami's are responsible for many lives and leave very little time to come up with a escape route.
Boxing day tsunami is one of the worse natural disasters ever recorded in history, killing Approximately 230,000 people. On 26 December 2004, at 07:58:53 local time the tsunami hit the indian ocean coast and was devasting to 14 countries. This caused lots of damage and disturbing living conditions. The cause of the tsunami was a large earthquake called Sumatra-Andaman earthquake that stretched 49 km on the ocean floor.
Conclusion
In conclusion I have learned that Tsunamis are large waves that are triggered by earthquakes. In places where Tsunamis are a risk they use deep ocean sensors and buoys to measure pressure changes in the water to alert shore of Tsunamis. Tsunamis are dangerous and can be 100 feet above sea level. Overall they are dangerous natural disasters that take many lives. Hopefully in the future though they won't be such a worry.

Acknowledgement
I'd like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 7 territory, the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Nations, including Siksika , Piikani , and Kainai , the Tsuut'ina , Nation and Stoney Nakoda First Nations.
I would like to also acknowledge Mrs Strogbach, Mrs Thomas and my family who made this possible.
I think it is important we acknowledge all the people who lost people in an tsunami or who where lost in a tsunami.
