Hypothesis
If we were to use different colors of light to see how a person sleeps, then I think sleeping without any light would be the best because according to my research its best to sleep in the dark without any lumination around your surroundings so your eyes aren't responding to your brain because different color will have effect on your brain so this keeps you up longer and causes your deep sleep cycle to decrease.

- The best way to sleep is in pure darkness.
- For sleeping, studies show red allows the most time for deep sleep.
- Green is not a good color to sleep with because of how bright it is.
- Green is although better than blue and white.Purple A
- Amber or orange is a peaceful calmful color to sleep with as it refreshes your mind.
- Red increases production of Melatonin
- Melatonin is an important part of sleep that our hormones contain
- Avoid blue light since electronic devices contain blue light so it can trick your brain into thinking it's daytime.
- White is another very bright color so it will also trick your brain into thinking its daytime as it allows for no darkness.
Variables
Manipulated Variable: The color of the light and no light
Responding Variable: Sleep tracker data comparison between sleeping with different colors of light and no light.
Three Controlled Variables: The Temperature of the room, Same measuring unit of sleep tracker, same sleeping surface and utensils.
Procedure
- Research the best color for sleeping.
- Gather all materials
- use a sleep tracking app on an apple watch so you can track the heart rate and DEEP SLEEP CYCLE.
- Sleep with colored light using sleep tracker and in the morning record data from app on a paper.
- Repeat step 4 until all colors done
- Repeat step 4 except sleep without any light in pitch black.
- Complete this test on many more people.
- look at the data and see who slept better. With light and what color or Without light.
Observations
This Graph was made from the average taken out of all the experiments conducted.
Analysis
What I have Analysed is that Red is the best color to sleep with after pure darkness. The graph has stated this.
What I analysed is that the brightest colors play a major effect on your sleep. Brighter colors keep you up more therefore not letting you get enough sleep. The darkest colors help you sleep better than bright colors. Red is the best color to sleep with if you need some light but all in all pure darkness allows for better focus of the brain to sleep. Green,Blue,White were the worst colors for me while I conducted this experiment. Amber made me feel refreshed as I slowly drifted off to sleep. Purple and pink were mostly normal colors and didn't have much effect but they did tend to keep me up longer.
Conclusion
Summary
All in all this project went great and for my next steps I am wanting to test this on more people to 100% know that my results are accurate.
Application
This appplies to real life use because knowing what colors are good to sleep with helps if you use a night light and knowing to stay away from certain colors during sleep can help you from harm.
Sources Of Error
An error i had was 2 night my nightlight failed by one day turning itself of and the other switching colors during sleeping. That data was disragarded.
